What is ABV, Alcohols by Volume?

“Alcoholic proof is a measure of how much alcohol (i.e., ethanol) is contained in an alcoholic beverage. The measure is commonly used in the United States, where it is defined as twice the percentage of alcohol by volume. Alcohol by volume (abbreviated as abv or ABV) is a standard measure of how much alcohol (ethanol) is contained in an alcoholic beverage (expressed as a percentage of total volume). The ABV standard is used worldwide” (wikipedia)

Why did we choose ABV for our show name? Because it’s cute. And, because it’s relevant to the show, the total ABV found in a bottle of alcohol can definitely change the dynamics of the spirit. Too much alcohol can damage the taste of the distilled spirit or is simply too overwhelming for the consumer while lighter alcohols may be used mainly for flavor/color enhancers.

Yet, it’s also a play on words, we’re drinking alcohol by the volume, mainly in straight/neat form to get the true nature of the spirit. No chilling, not overwhelmed in ice, we’re going to get the full burn and “flavor” from the unaltered spirit. If it tastes good straight, imagine how much better it will taste in your cocktail?
