ABV 45: Cachaça Tasting/Review

We’re experimenting with our first Cachaça tasting. We’ve not really had too many products from Brazil on the show, but this sugar cane distilled spirit is definitely new and exciting to us! We’re tasting Cachaça 51, Leblon and Boca Loca.

Nice episode, we here say kai-pee-reen-ya. Boca means mouth. Loca is not portuguese, cause here we say louca. Louca means crazy (female). So boca loca would be like crazy mouth. Cheers from Rio.

51 is a low shelf brand here, Leblon is pure marketing (like Cuervo), not the best cachaça, and Boca Loca is not available here in Brazil, only outside. The best ones here inside are Ypióca, Nêga Fulo, Sagatiba, Salinas and many handcrafted ones. Check some at my private collection at lsv.com.br/bar .

Well damn, I have to find something that's actually a top-shelf winner! They must make ship something up here…

Hey This Is Thiago a.k.a. TEJA from Brazil, I became huge a fan of your reviews. The cachças you reviewed as our friend below said are not good at all, 51 is the best selling brand, but it's very cheap and low quality. Here we have tons of it one of the most expensive and premium is Cachaça Havana from Anisio Santiago it costs aroun U$200 here. Some good brands of cachaça which are not that expensive are Seleta, Salinas, Germana, Espírito de Minas among others that you may be able to import. Anyway here we have a heritage of consuming handcrafted cachaças from small distilleries which are way better than the regular marketed cachaças. If you want to send me an email and maybe I can ship some bottles.
    Cheers

Can you ship them over the border without problem? I know getting things from and to Canada can be a real pain in the ass. We have no good cachaça here :(
