Imagine having to figure out which spirit brands are the best for you? You walk into a liquor store and there are thousands of labels with pretty colors, nice shapes and full of marketing. Marketing aside, which brand fits your tastes and expectations? We are here to figure it all out.
Our goal is to experience different brands of alcohol while giving our interpretation of its taste profile on the show from both a man and woman’s perspective. Derrick and Jennifer have their own palate, likes and dislikes which will help cut through the brand marketing and get down to flavors.
We’re going to work different show segments to really experience spirits in their best forms. Some shows may go through and highlight a new brand, others episodes will be full on blind tastings of a spirit style while others will rate our favorite brands battling it out in a cocktail. Does a cruzan coconut rum taste different than a malibu coconut rum in a specific recipe? Let’s figure it out.
When rating cocktails, we’re using a 20-point scale based on: smell, taste, presentation and cost. Each category will be given a 5-point rating based on our personal palate. We will spent time giving you an idea on what flavors exist so you can pick the one that might suit you best.
Who Are We?
Derrick and Jennifer Schommer are husband and wife who started their first video show on alcohol called Common Man Cocktails at everydaydrinkers.tv. Common Man Cocktails experiences unique cocktail recipes five times a week, we’re using that experience to start Alcohols by Volume, to break down the core spirits found within the drinks themselves.
